Best refurbished laptops for Linux, with today's prices
The best refurbished laptops for Linux are business laptops with a public Linux record, and six of the seven here are certified with Ubuntu. The Dell Latitude 5411 has both: Canonical certified it, and an owner runs Fedora on it. Prices change every day, so the Linux table shows today's order. Cheapest Latitude 5411 on offer: from €283 (8 GB), seen 26 September 2026
How this list was made
For each laptop model, this site answers one Linux question: does Linux work on it? The answer comes from a page we opened, and each model page quotes that page. The refurbished laptops where Linux works table holds every model with the answer "works", cheapest first.
This guide picks seven models from that table. Each one has live offers in most Markets today, and each one has a second source: an Ubuntu certification page, a vendor document or a report from a Linux user.
The prices below are live. They read the catalogue each time you open the page, so the cheapest model today can be a different one tomorrow. The sections are not sorted by price. For today's order, open the Linux table.
What "certified with Ubuntu" means
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, tests laptops and publishes a page for each one that passes. The certification is for a specific image. The Dell Latitude 5400 page says: "Pre-installed in some regions with a custom Ubuntu image that takes advantage of the system's hardware features and may include additional software." It also warns: "Standard images of Ubuntu may not work well, or at all."
So certification tests one image. It does not test every distribution. The owner reports below show other releases on the same models.

Dell Latitude 7280
Cheapest Latitude 7280 on offer: from €125 (8 GB), seen 12 September 2026
The 7280 is the only model here without an Ubuntu certification. One owner put Linux Mint on it and wrote: "everything (Wi-Fi, sound, display) worked out of the box." The ArchWiki list of Dell laptops names two parts that do not work, starting with "No: Fingerprint reader". The other is the NFC reader. Its own ArchWiki page gives one step before you install: "Before installing, disable Secure Boot in the UEFI or configure it."
Buy it when you do not need the fingerprint reader or the NFC reader.

Check that the offer is the laptop, not the 2-in-1.
Lenovo ThinkPad P15s
Cheapest ThinkPad P15s on offer: from €344 (16 GB), seen 19 September 2026
This price covers every P15s generation this site tracks. The Gen 2, without the i, reads "partial" on this site, so check the generation in the offer. Canonical lists two of them: "Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 1 certified with Ubuntu" and "Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 2i (Core i7-1185G7) certified with Ubuntu". It is the only ThinkPad on this list.
Why the ThinkPad T480 and the T14 are not on the list
On this site, the ThinkPad T480 and the T14 Gen 1 read "partial": Linux runs, but some hardware does not work.
- ThinkPad T480. The ArchWiki page states: "There is no working Linux driver for the Fibocom L850-GL." That modem is the T480's optional mobile broadband card. Read our guide is the ThinkPad T480 still good?, and see its model page.
- ThinkPad T14 Gen 1. A Fedora user wrote: "However, there are still two unresolved hardware issues with the built-in microphone and webcams." See its model page.
Two common HP EliteBook generations also read "partial": the 840 G7 and the 840 G8. Each model page quotes the page its answer came from, so you can check it yourself.
Questions people ask

A business laptop with a public Linux record. The Dell Latitude 3410, 5400, 5411, 7420 and 7430 and the ThinkPad P15s Gen 1 and Gen 2i are all certified with Ubuntu. The cheapest one changes every day. The Linux table shows today's order.
What does "certified with Ubuntu" mean?
Canonical tested the laptop with a custom Ubuntu image and published the result. Its pages warn that a standard Ubuntu image "may not work well, or at all."
Does Linux work on a refurbished ThinkPad T480?
Linux runs on it, but this site marks it "partial". The ArchWiki names the optional mobile broadband modem, which has no working Linux driver. The T480 is not on this list for that reason.
Can I install any Linux distribution on a certified laptop?
Certification tests one Ubuntu image. It does not test other distributions. Owners report Fedora on the Latitude 5411 and Linux Mint on the Latitude 7280. Each model page on this site quotes the source of its Linux answer.
